Le Petite Fiddles Exhibit Coming to Downtown Opelousas

November 19, 2020

(Opelousas, LA) —Opelousas Tourism, along with the Celebrate Opelousas 300 Commission and Opelousas Main Street, announces the arrival of a new exhibit, Le Petite Fiddles. The exhibit will be unveiled Saturday, November 28, at 10:30 am at the outside window of Lagniappe Vape Shop located at 232 Court Street in downtown Opelousas. The window front exhibit will feature wooden fiddles painted by fourteen artists from around the Opelousas area.

Not only is the fiddle one of the most recognized instruments in Cajun and Creole music, but it also lends itself as a component used in branding for the City of Opelousas. The petite fiddle exhibit is a spin-off of the popular Fiddle Mania exhibit, an oversized painted fiddle public art exhibit introduced in 2010 by Opelousas Main Street.

Artists contributing to the project include Cathy Hebert, Cindy Pitre, Gabrielle Janis, Gerri Soileau, Ivy Carriere, Larry Primeaux, Michelle Fontenot, Michelle Johnson-Colligan, Morgan Glasscock, Neketta Guillory, Robbie Sebastien, Shantall Rovairs, Sue Boagni, and Kristy Lalonde.

The project is part of the activities designed to celebrate the city’s 300-year anniversary. It will also be used as a fundraiser for the corner lot of Court and South streets project by Opelousas Main Street. Other projects and activities during the year included Boxed Art, Tricentennial Mural located on Delta Grand, and Community Celebration Mural.
