City of Opelousas Tricentennial

Oral History Project

The Celebrate Opelousas 300 Committee wanted to recognize the historical contributions of this area and proposed an oral history project as part of the City of Opelousas’ tricentennial celebration. The project engaged the community by inviting the city’s residents to participate and share their stories - stories of their ancestors and other historical aspects of the area. The project fostered the need of creating a permanent oral history record for future generations. Here are the stories collected for the project from people who represent the community and city of Opelousas.
